October Happy Hour

October 10, 2009

Last night’s happy hour was great, as usual. The Twins vs. Yankees game was on, and despite the Twins losing, we all shared some great cheering moments when they were up by 1, then scored two more runs (we knew it was down-hill when they had the bases loaded and no outs – and didn’t manage to score). A bunch of folks came wearing their Twins gear!

We're gonna win (someday) Twins!

There were a lot of new faces at the event, and it was awesome talking to new and old friends. Some had lived in NYC a few weeks, and a few for 8 years or more. My old high school friend, Ben, and I were pretty sure this was our first time seeing each other since high school, and we caught up on all the success stories from our class, like comedian Nick Swardson, and Josh, guitarist of Motion City Soundtrack.

Our Hot Dish, Rosela, came out. She hadn’t been to the happy hour before, despite my efforts to convince her, and I hope she had fun even though there seemed to be no single men in attendance (this annoys more than just Rosela – we’re sensing a theme among MN ex-pat men – married or engaged!!!).

I also met Sandie, a fellow native St. Paul-ite who has a graphic design studio with her husband called Q Collective. Two new friends who just started their first term at Atlantic Theater Company attended together, bonded by their MN upbringing. Rex, founder of Kinda Sorta Media, was in attendance for a second happy hour.

A great time was had by all, and we can’t wait for next month’s!

Now I’m heading back to (le) Poisson Rouge for Radio Happy Hour. This month’s guest is Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio. I’m sensing a radio theme. What a great way to spend my Saturday afternoon!

Anne here (Armstrong ’99, now Brooklyn resident). Sorry to have missed this; I was actually seeing the game with my Morningside Heights native Yankees guy (gasp, shudder). Anyway, if anyone wants to join the weekly crew on Sundays at Bar None to see Vikings games, I’m down.
