This is a great weekend for fans of all things Minnesota.
First of all, and most importantly, of course, is our Minnesota Monthly Happy Hour tonight at (le) Poisson Rouge. It’s our Holiday Bake-off, and I’m eager to taste all the delicious bars, cookies and cakes that will be entered tonight. Minnesotans have a special way of doing just about everything, including desserts. It’s going to be a delicious and fun time! Our esteemed judging panel of MN ex-pats is:
– Sam Utne – Founder of MN Culture Club, a new website for Minnesota culture beyond its borders
– Taya Mueller – former promoter at legendary First Ave, and Le Poisson Rouge guru
– Sam Osterhout – creator, writer and host of Radio Happy Hour, the live radio show that’s not on the radio
And because there’s always room for more desserts, we’ll even allow last-minute entries that show up tonight. Winners will be announced at 8pm. Hope to see you there!
Speaking of live radio shows, you’ve probably heard by now that “A Prairie Home Companion” is doing a series of live shows at Town Hall for the next few weeks. Tonight is the 2nd show, and there are 5 more after tonight. I don’t know about you, but I grew up singing the Powdermilk Biscuit song on roadtrips, and always enjoying hearing the news from Lake Wobegon to be reminded of my MN roots. Get tix here.
And finally, the Martha Stewart Holiday Craft Sale is tomorrow from 12-6pm at the MSLO headquarters in the depths of Chelsea. Minneapolis native Corinne Gill will be selling her beautiful hairpieces and jewelry from her and her partner’s line, Handle & Spout. Yay craftiness! Minnesotan’s are known for that, too, and Corinne’s are delicate, stylish and modern.
