January’s Hot Dish

January 8, 2010

In the first installment of 2010, Andrew is our January “Hot Dish,” a feature that highlights an intriguing and very sexy single person from Minnesota who lives in New York, who you can meet at the Minnesota Monthly Happy Hour at Le Poisson Rouge this Friday.

Check out those Nordic good looks! Andrew appears to actually be in the MN northwoods in this shot

Andrew was bold enough to be featured as our first straight male “Hot Dish,” and how fitting that it’s at the time of our one-year anniversary for the monthly happy hours. Andrew got the ball rolling on our happy hour events last late December, suggesting to the facebook group that we get together in the early days of 2009. He was there when I arrived to the happy hour, greeting me with above-average and genuine Minnesota niceness.

This gusto and go-getting-ness is typical of Andrew. He has lived for a year each in Morocco and Belgium. His career has been focused largely on community organizing and issue advocacy, working with such noted groups as Democracy Matters and Peace in the Precincts. Plus, he formed his own French language meet-up group for more advanced speakers, which meets a little more often than monthly, typically at Von Bar in Noho. Oh la la!

Andrew was a graduate of Minneapolis South (MN tidbit: alma matter to Josh Hartnett, Rachael Leigh Cook, as well as the drummers for Soul Asylum and Prince’s NPG), and spent summers at his family’s proverbial post-war lake cabin in Minnesota’s northwoods. He also visited NY frequently, as Andrew’s mom actually grew up in Brooklyn in the old Norwegian enclave in Bay Ridge (where a Norwegian store still carries lefse). She made the pilgrimage to St. Olaf College, met Andrew’s dad, and the rest is history.

Currently working with/interning at Brooklyn Mediation Center, he is applying for graduate programs that will allow him to integrate a number of interests, including bioethics! He’s not yet gotten into the idiosyncrasies of dating in NYC, and prefers to get to know someone and let a relationship develop naturally. Chatting over a drink or checking out DJs and their tastemaking talents would be fun nights out for him and a lady friend.

Come meet Andrew tomorrow at this month’s Minnesota Monthly happy hour at Le Poisson Rouge!

Andrew is one of the most outgoing and interesting folks I’ve met since I’ve moved to NYC.
