Happy Hour in review
Thanks to everyone who came out to last Friday’s Minnesota Monthly Happy Hour. There were lots of familiar faces, including friends and bake-off judges Sam Osterhout, Sam Utne – who brought his girlfriend Molly, brother Oliver and old friend Chris – and Taya Mueller. We also had Ashley, who brought Chris, her U of MN-attending boyfriend visiting for the weekend; and regulars Alex, Dawn, Kathryn, Dustin, Ashleigh, and Bryan and his wife Chris. “Hot Dish” Andrew was there to celebrate the anniversary of the happy hour he helped create. Miss G Train contestant Anne came out wearing her new “I <MN> NY” t-shirt in a lovely shade of green and paired with a pretty string of pearls.
Thanks to my old friends, Liv and Akil, for making it out to their first happy hour. Akil reconnected with me because his fellow Minnesotan co-worker happened upon my blog and asked Akil off-handedly if he knew “Nora Ree-men-shne-something” who founded this “Minnesotans in NYC” thing. And of course, he did! Both Akil and his co-worker Nate came out and I hope they enjoyed the Minnesotan company as much as me. I also love the story of first-timer Mandy, who learned about the website and happy hour from the person sitting next to her on her flight home to MN for the holidays!
And lastly, we were truly honored to have some real Minnesota greats in our midst. David Carr of the New York Times came out, who hails from Hopkins and was once editor of the Twin Cities Reader. He was brought by his wife, Jill Rooney-Carr, who works at the Union Square Hospitality Group and is a fellow U of MN alum. In tow was Katherine Lanpher, writer and journalist who wrote for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, hosted a show on Minnesota Public Radio, and co-hosted an Air America Radio show with Al Franken. She lives in New York City and works as a writer, journalist and broadcaster.
Thanks to all attendees for making our first anniversary happy hour a spectacular one! I am so grateful to everyone who comes out to these happy hours and makes them the very fun and special events that they are. I’ve met some amazing people and kept in touch with old friends, and I hope everyone who attends has as much fun at them as me!
See you next month!
