May Happy Hour Artist Showcase Recap and Photo Link
What a blast we had at the Minnesota Monthly Happy Hour in May! We presented an artist showcase, along with Minnesota Culture Club, to highlight MN ex-pat writers, comics and musicians living in New York City. It was an amazing array of talent, and our best crowd yet.
My co-host from MN Culture Club, Raphael Golberstein, and I kicked off the showcase after everyone had a chance to arrive and settle into the evening.
We started off with some Minnesota trivia, presented by Mishka and May “Hot Dish” Erin, with Tara modeling the many awesome prizes, including MN Culture Club t-shirts, tickets to Radio Happy Hour, and MN souvenir prize packs. Here’s a winner now!
Our first artists to share their craft were writer Dustin Luke Nelson, c0-founding editor of InDigest Magazine, and Radio Happy Hour host Sam Osterhout. These two shared entertaining excerpts from their tour diaries when they recently brought Radio Happy Hour on the road for 2 shows in the midwest, including Minneapolis, of course.
After some more MN trivia questions, we brought out brother-sister comedy duo, John and Molly Knefel, who had the crowd laughing, both at their on-stage antics and their video from their “John and Molly Get Along” comedy series. They showed hilarious and slightly heart-wrenching episode 3, “The Airport!” Co-star Katharine Heller was in the crowd.
Last but certainly not least, we heard great music from Hans Erik and bassist Erik Naslund.
DJ Cherry Spoon (aka Anne Stuzsek) kept the party going by spinning Minnesota music for the rest of the night.
More photos from the night, including many of the attendees enjoying the festivities, can be found here.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great night. We hope to see you at our next happy hour on Friday, June 4th.
