Events to fill your whole week

It’s an exciting week for those of us who love to support fellow Minnesotans entertaining the masses in NYC! Here is a run-down of all sorts of events to check out.

John & Molly Get Along

Don't let these sweet looks fool you!

Brother-sister comedy duo John and Molly Knefel host their monthly comedy series at Le Poisson Rouge on Wednesday night.  John and Molly were nice enough to share their talents and get the crowd laughing at the May MN Monthly Happy Hour Artist Showcase, where they had the crowd completely captivated by their video, “The Airport.”  These two are not only hilarious and whip-smart in their own right, they also get great comics to perform and they debut episodes of their comedy video series, plus it is FREE.  This month, they’ve got a great line-up:

Dan St. Germain (ECNY Emerging Comic nominee)
Sara Schaefer (Jimmy Fallon)
Ophira Eisenberg (Comedy Central, the MOTH)
Jordan Carlos (Nurse Jackie!)

@ Le Poisson Rouge
7:30pm / FREE

Jeremy Messersmith

Minneapolis pop singer-songwriter Jeremy Messersmith will be in town to support his new album, “The Relucant Graveyard,” at Joe’s Pub at 7pm.  This album is the third in a trilogy released over the last 4 years by this prolific and talented musician.  Check out the great press he got in Mpls alt-weekly City Pages, on which he graced the cover this week.

Also, they’ll be having another InDigest 1207 on Tuesday, June 1 at 7pm at the KGB Bar with poets Leigh Stein and Becca Klaver, as well as author Zachary German.

Free Energy

Though technically this band is from Philadelphia, Free Energy includes Scott Wells and Paul Sprangers of defunct Mpls band Hockey Night, and Nick Shuminsky of St. Paul’s Superhopper.  Free Energy has been blowing up for their catchy rock hooks and fun 70’s glam sound.  They were recently on the Late Show with David Letterman which you can watch here!

@ The Bowery Ballroom
w/ Jukebox the Ghost & Miniature Tigers
8:00 pm / $15

Scott Alexander

A fellow Minnesota ex-pat living in New York, Scott Alexander is a musician with a mission – to give away free cookies on his green inflatable couch and make friend in the process.  He’s a lot of fun and so is his music.  You may have met him at past MN Monthly Happy Hours where he attends regularly.  So far, he’s left the baked goods to me at these events, but maybe he’ll bring cookies sometime soon!

@ Public Assembly
w/ Julia Brown, Corduroy Days, The Juvenals, and Algae & Tentacles
9:00pm / $8
